The Cornizzolo take off is well known for its 15 mn sweet and sweaty climb on a steep footpath. But there is a surprise ! For the first task, Cornizzolo Eventi, the organizer, is bringing the gliders at take off by helicopter ! Not very ecological but well received by the pilots.

The forecasted conditions are quite stable. A 77 km race to goal is proposed by Giorgio, the meet director, with the task committee. The start time is 14:00, 5 km from the first turnpoint. The task goes other side of the Lecco lake and back with the last little leg in the flats south of the landing. Without the distance to the start and the radius of the turnpoints, the real distance of the task is about 55 km.
In fact, the conditions are better than expected and everybody enjoys a wonderful flight. The fastest pilots are making it soon after 14:00 but the slowest pilots enjoy the scenery almost two more hours ! Harmony Gaw is the last in goal at 17:59 !
Urban Valic (2:10) is leading a little group of 4 pilots (Kaoru Ogisawa 2:11, Stephan Wyss and Tomas Brauner 2:12). A big group, like a Tour de France "peloton" (without the chemicals !), is following, with a famous leader, Christian Maurer (2:13), the brand new Swiss hanggliding champion ! He still knows how to fly a paraglider !
Anja Kroll is the first woman, only 8 mn behind the fast slovenian rasta. Ewa Wiesnierska is second in 2:25 and Dorothea Stichlmaier third in 2:39. According to her sunburns, she definitely flew too long ! ;-)
With two pilots at the top, Valic and Brauner, Mac Para is obviously the winning team of the day, in front of Advance.
In the evening, pilots enjoy a lake tour on a sailboat offered by the organization.
Tomorrow, the same conditions, more or less, are expected. More pilots in goal or more sunburns ?
